Interim head coach Mikey Harris shouts out instructions.

Mikey Harris said he was ‘very proud’ of his Albion team after they suffered narrow 2-1 defeat to Everton in Friday’s WSL game at the Amex.

The Toffees avenged their opening-day loss by the same score with goals from Karen Holmgaard and an own goal by Guro Bergsvand either side of Tatiana Pinto’s close-range equaliser midway through the second half.

There was a noisy crowd of 4987 at the Amex and Harris was disappointed they couldn’t see their team get a point he felt they deserved.

“I will have to look back on the 90 minutes again but my overall impression of the game is that we deserved a draw,” said Harris. “The margins in this league are really small. We are on the wrong end of the result but I thought we played well against a good side, I'm very proud of the team.

Tatiana Pinto battles for a loose ball.

“We pushed at the end and I thought we should have had a penalty at the end when it looked like Katie Robinson was pushed in the back.

“We put a lot into the game and in terms of the way we want to play – the possession-based style – there were a lot of good signs again, and we’ve also stopped giving up chances at the other end so there were lots of positive signs.”

Harris praised the Albion fans who created a terrific atmosphere. “When we were attacking it felt as if there were double the number of fans we had, they were really loud and got behind the team," he added. "I think they will go home feeling that they saw a really good game between two committed teams and we just came out on the wrong end of the result.”
