Julio Enciso missed a significant part of the season due to injury.

Julio Enciso is keen to finish the Premier League season with a goal against Manchester United on Sunday before leaving for this summer’s Copa America.

The Paraguay forward suffered a torn meniscus in training in August just after a stunning performance in the 4-1 win at Wolves, in which he provided two assists for goals by Solly March. He did not return to action until February and has not been able to add to the four goals he scored last season.

“I am trying to link up with my team-mates, but also to get my goal,” he said. “It’s not coming but I keep working to score my goal and give assists to my colleagues. I don’t want to go without getting a goal. I want to do that or give another assist. I want to finish well here and then think about my national team, who have the Copa America.”

Paraguay are in Group D of the tournament, which is being held in the United States. They face Colombia in Houston on June 24, Brazil in Las Vegas on June 28 and Costa Rica in Austin on July 2. “God willing, I will be there,” he said. “I spoke to my national team coach [Daniel] Garnero and he was putting confidence in me.”

Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi has been careful not to overload Enciso as he works his way back to full fitness.

Julio Enciso celebrates Joao Pedro's late goal against Aston Villa.

“I’m feeling stronger with every game, I’m feeling very good - better every match,” he said. “Obviously I need more minutes and that is what I’m looking for.

“I went through a very difficult moment but thanks to God I’m back on the pitch, trying to help my team. Obviously I am continuing to work to bring my best to Brighton. After an injury, it is difficult. But I think I have got very good team-mates and also the coach, who tries to give me confidence in every match.

“He wants me to keep helping the team and also go for goal, which is what I am doing. Every match will help me get back to match rhythm. I felt good at Newcastle and here as well (on Wednesday against Chelsea). It wasn’t a very positive result for us but personally I felt good.”
